About

I’m an interdisciplinary artist who predominantly works with printmaking, video, and performance. I was born in London, grew up on the Isle of Wight, and now live near the Brecon Beacons in Wales. I studied fine art at Winchester School of Art and am pursuing a master’s in fine art at Aberystwyth University.

My work has always been about unity and freedom and the connection required with ourselves, others and the world for this to be experienced. I highlight the human experience of the dualities of freedom and oppression, separation and unity.

My yogic practice of meditation, spiritual texts and Iyengar yoga inform my art pieces. To understand oppression and separation, I contemplate the human suffering we seek to avoid created by societal structures, zeitgeists, and internalised experiences and beliefs.

Our bodies have become so objectified, even to ourselves, that I’m exploring how we can reconnect to our physical selves and why we disconnect. Our bodies have become the stage for our societal and personal suffering, and while this is seen through health issues, few of us seem to explore our relationship with our bodies and ourselves to find happiness.

The current body prints are dualistic, separating into two opposing categories: ‘Separation and Oppression’, presenting internal chaos and ‘Freedom and Unity’, showing stillness and peace.

The prints around ‘Separation and Oppression’ reveal and conceal different body parts, pushing the print beyond the confines of the frame; the process of creating a Collagraph plate interferes with the original body print, creating distortion and ambiguity, making the body almost completely unrecognisable in the same way that the humanity of the oppressed and oppressor becomes unrecognisable.

The ‘Freedom and Unity’ prints use the printmaking methods Lithino or etching. The Lithino prints use size and negative space to create a sense of peace and freedom, which asks the viewer to step back, creating completeness or totality to the work representative of unity. With the smaller pieces, they ask to be held in your hand; there is an intimacy to it that pulls you in. It’s ambiguous as to what the prints are of, but they have a peace and stillness that only freedom knows.
